Born in Sorengo (Canton Ticino) in 1941, Marco Krähenbühl studied architecture at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zurich, where he graduated in 1966. During his studies he began a collaboration, which will continue after graduation, with the planning studio Luigi Nessi in Lugano. Since 1970 he has been co-owner of the architecture studio Marco Krähenbühl + Tino Bomio based in Riva San Vitale. In 1986 he founded the planning studio BKR SA in Massagno, which in 1994 merged with the studio Pronini & Wagner and took the name Studi Associati SA in Lugano. He taught architecture (1983-1997) and then architectural design (1997-1999) at the High Technical School of Lugano, later University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Southern Switzerland (SUPSI). He was a member of the Federal Commission for Historical Monuments - Urban Planning Subcommittee (1991-1996). From 2005 to 2017 he was a member of the Cantonal Cultural Heritage Commission.
